The Self Build ExtensionI'm a 27 year old average bloke, have little to no clue about any type of domestic extensions and I guess I'm slightly mad. I purchaced our wonderful little pad at the end of May 2011 with my better half.
The house was deffinately in need of more than a little TLC all the plaster on the walls was blown and it is generally rather grotty.... unfortunately it's so expensive to buy anything, it was the only way we could afford to by anything in the area we wanted, which is on the north west edge of London. After jumping in at the deep end, I removed the old bathroom and started bashing old plaster off the walls, started moving radiators about and generally making a mess and trying to learn how to get the plaster back on the walls (yes, it really is a skill), basically teaching myself with a trustly book I had bought in our local town about many different aspects to DIY. By the end of the year we decided we wanted to extend the house to accomodate a new kitchen. At the beginning of 2012 we decided to look into extending our house... We obtained quotes from local builders to find out ho much we were looking at, I turned green and made one of the biggest decisions of my life... Heck... I'll build it! This is an account from start to finish of our progress through the stages starting in January 2012.... PS, I'm still writing this site, so bear with me as we progress! |

Disclaimer
I am obviously a DIY'er and i'm not part of the building trade, however, I wanted to document our progress to keep us sane and also to share all the knowledge we have gained throughout the process. I wouldnt know half the stuff I know now if it wasnt for others sharing their knowledge. Use my advice with caution, but to the best of my knowledge it's correct! If anyone has any corrections of anything which maybe useful to add, then please use the contact tab at the top of the page! Ta!
