Building Control CostsOk, so lets face it the building control costs are not the cheapest but let's have a think about it:
- The lovely inspectors are there to ensure you build something safe - They can guide you at every stage - They are cheaper than an architect! The guide on the right details the costs of all the inspections and all the bits and bobs the council need to do to certify the works. You will need these documents if you every need to sell your house. Now, I decided to go down the route submitting 'Building Notice' this is where you do not have your plans approved before you start, it alows you to effectively 'muddle through with guidance'. You could submit 'Full plans' the benefit here is that if the full plans have been approved then you should have little trouble in simply having everything signed off at the end, providing you havent changed anything along the way. What I didn't know until reciently is that ther cost of both the full plans and the building notice route are both the same. The initial cost of the full plans route is more expensive, however after inspections which are also required, the cost of both is about the same! |
